WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
PROGRAMME 2001
The Government of India declared the year 2001 as
Year For Women Empowerment. Series of welfare programmes were conducted all
over for the benefit of the women.
PEACEFUL SOCIETY took the lead to commemorate the year as the Empowerment of
Women in Goa and designed a 6 months intensive programme .
Peaceful Society launched the Women Empowerment Programme’01 on 28th
July’01at Peaceful Society premises in Madkai. The inauguration of the
programme was done at the hands of Shri Ravi Naik, Deputy Chief Minister of
Goa, The other invitees were MMC Chairperson Kamlini Painguinkar, Dr. Pramod
Salgaonkar Chairperson of Women’s
Commission, Dr. Poornima Usgaonkar.
The Special features of this programme were conduction of workshops on varied issues concerning the
women in the society. Workshops were held on subjects like Law & Judiciary,
Education, Health, Banking, Politics, Women Commission, Government
Schemes, Women & Literature,
Entrepreneurship, Media & Theatre, Difficulties encountered in Marriages ,
Journalism.
Eminent personalities were invited to deliver talks, to share their views and
opinions, with the woman folk. Women usually confine themselves to their houses
, their life revolves around their husband and children , they are bound by their household duties, meeting the
expectations of their in-laws. As such it
becomes our duty to enlighten them on various developments
and facilities meant for their betterment. A small working group comprising of Mrs. Bharati Bandodkar, Dr.
Poornima Usgaonkar, Mrs. Jyoti Kunkolicar
was constituted to design the programme.
Following 11 workshops were organised as part of Women Empowerment Year,

The participants for the workshops were mostly women from Ponda Taluka.
